LUNA DEL PINAL'S story began during a trip to Guatemala where textile designers Gabriela Luna and Corina del Pinal intended to master one of the oldest weaving techniques in the world.
Having graduated from Istituto Marangoni and Royal College of Arts, as well as worked at established fashion houses including Gareth Pugh, Christopher Kane, and JW Anderson, Gabriela and Corina wanted to learn backstrap weaving, an ancient art that is central to Guatemalan culture in the production of clothing and textiles.
Immersed in the natural surroundings of Xela and other parts of the country, Gabriela and Corina became fascinated by the traditions and artistic heritage of the local community. This tradition of true craftsmanship shaped what they like to define as luxury and also inspired their decision to start LUNA DEL PINAL.
The brand revolves around the concept of slow fashion and aims to support the indigenous and historical art by employing local artists and craftspeople of Guatemala to create ethical, hand-made garments. The brand’s aim is to create contemporary and fashion-forward designs, whilst supporting native artists and contributing to a positive change for the local communities.
Following a successful trial launch of the brand during Paris Fashion Week for AW16 with a capsule collection of oversized handwoven jackets, LUNA DEL PINAL has quickly gained recognition for creating truly authentic, hand-made clothing with a contemporary aesthetic.
LUNA DEL PINAL is available to purchase via our online shop, and at selected retailers and concept stores around the world.
